Description

Swiss steak transforms affordable beef chuck into a melt‑away, tomato‑rich stew using pantry staples. This easy crockpot method delivers tender meat, fragrant garlic and onion, and a savory broth enhanced by Worcestershire sauce, creating a comforting dinner perfect for busy weeknights. Serve over rice, noodles, or mashed potatoes for a hearty, family‑friendly meal that feels restaurant quality at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds beef chuck steak, cut into pieces
  • 1 can (15 ounces) diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Season the beef chunks with salt and pepper, then (optional) brown them in a skillet.
  2. Place the seasoned (and browned) beef into the crockpot.
  3. Add the diced tomatoes, beef broth, sliced onion, minced garlic, and Worcestershire sauce, ensuring the liquid nearly covers the meat.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 6‑8 hours or on high for 4 hours until the beef is tender.
  5. If the sauce is too thin, stir in a cornstarch slurry and cook on high for an additional 15 minutes; adjust seasoning as needed.
  6. Serve the stew over rice, noodles, or mashed potatoes and garnish with fresh parsley.

Notes

  • For a thicker sauce
  • stir in a cornstarch slurry during the last 30 minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
